Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a great way to kick off the holiday season.  Hopefully you noticed the display of empty red and green “shoeboxes” in the foyer outside the Sanctuary near the doors that lead to the restrooms and nurseries.  While OCC is being coordinated by the Bailey/Gilbreth Fellowship Group this year, everyone in the congregation can participate.  There are multiple ways to help:

There will be a packing party on Sunday, October 29 to prepare at least 24 boxes for shipment to children in needy communities all over the world through Samaritan’s Purse.  You can contribute items to go into those boxes by contacting Chip Bray at csbray@bulloch.net to get a list of the kinds of gifts we are wanting to pack.

If you are not a shopper, but want to contribute, we need monetary donations to buy items for the boxes and to cover the cost of shipment.  It now costs $9 per box to ship these presents.  If you want to help in this way, please make your check out to Trinity Presbyterian Church with Christmas Child on the “for” line.  (We will write one check for all of the shoeboxes that are packed by the Fellowship Group.)

Of course, you and your family may want to just pack a box yourselves.  You may pick up a box and envelope from the main display.  Fill it with goodies using the Samaritan’s Purse guidelines, close it with rubber bands and return it to those same shelves no later than November 12.  A check made out to Samaritan’s Purse should be placed in the box in the envelope or you can pay online at samaritanspurse.com and receive a shipping label to put on the giftbox.  (Then you can track where your gift goes!)

The Bailey/Gilbreth Fellowship group will be responsible to get all of the packed shoeboxes left at the church by November 12 to a local collection center.  We hope at least 50 shoeboxes will be sent by Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Lastly, please pray.  Actually, first pray, too.  We want the love of Christ to be demonstrated to the children.  We want doors opened for the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We want God to be glorified.  Please pray for the workers at Samaritan’s Purse, some of whom will have opportunities to tell children and their parents about Jesus.
